Alloa explosion that killed man inside home was not caused by gas mains, SGN say

An explosion in Alloa that tragically killed a man inside a home has been confirmed by Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) to not have been caused by the gas mains. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 6, in Clackmannanshire town, resulting in the death of Graham Green, 50, and injuries to three others.

SGN conducted a thorough investigation into the explosion, ruling out any connection to their gas network. The area was cordoned off for a detailed examination, with Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) collaborating on determining the cause of the blast.

Despite the investigation ruling out gas main faults, Police Scotland continues to probe the incident, describing Graham’s death as “unexplained.” While formal identification is pending, his family has been notified, and tributes have poured in for him on social media.

Residents affected by the blast have been unable to return to their homes as work continues to secure the building. Clackmannanshire Council’s leader, Ellen Forson, assured the community of ongoing investigations to ensure safety in the area.

Chief Inspector Kat Thompson, area commander, expressed condolences to Graham’s family and friends, emphasizing the collaborative efforts with partner agencies to fully understand the circumstances of the explosion. A police presence will persist in the vicinity to facilitate the investigation.

As the community copes with this tragic event, support from emergency services and the local community remains crucial during this difficult time. The investigation seeks to provide answers and closure to those affected by the Alloa explosion.
