Black Mercedes traced in fatal hit and run investigation in Hamilton as family pay tribute


Police in Hamilton have made progress in their investigation into a fatal hit-and-run incident by tracing a black Mercedes A-class car. The crash, which resulted in the death of 70-year-old James Craig from Hamilton, occurred at around 12:40am on Sunday, October 27 on the A723 near Quarry Street in Hamilton. James Craig was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have revealed that the vehicle involved in the incident has been located and is currently undergoing detailed forensic examinations as part of the ongoing investigation. While significant headway has been made in the case, officers are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward.

In a touching gesture, the family of James Craig have expressed their gratitude for the support they have received from the public. A statement released through Police Scotland conveyed the family’s appreciation for the messages of condolence and kindness shared by those who knew James. They also extended their thanks to the individuals who stopped to assist James at the scene, including a young man who performed CPR and staff from a nearby pub.

Sergeant John Houston issued an appeal for further information, particularly from anyone who may have witnessed a black Mercedes A-class car in the vicinity at the time of the incident. He reiterated the importance of dash cam footage or private CCTV that could aid in the investigation.
