Bonfire Night yobs smash up Macklin Motors dealership cars in violent rampage

Bonfire Night yobs caused havoc in Edinburgh last night, smashing up luxury cars at the Macklin Motors Hyundai showroom on Calder Road in the Sighthill area of the city. The violent rampage left a trail of destruction as brand new display cars were vandalised by the thugs, who rampaged through the dealership’s forecourt. Workers arrived at the scene this morning to assess the damage, with back windows and windscreens shattered, prompting some to tape over the open windows of the badly damaged vehicles.

Pictures taken at the scene revealed the extent of the vandalism, with several brand new Hyundai cars and an Audi A1 among those targeted. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, while staff members were left shocked and dismayed by the wreckage. Macklin Motors officials are currently assessing the cost of the damage and are collaborating with the authorities on the matter. The shameful act of violence at the dealership was part of a larger wave of disorder across Edinburgh on Bonfire Night, with Niddrie and Moredun also experiencing chaos.

In addition to the dealership attack, there were reports of youths launching fireworks and other objects at emergency services and passing traffic. A petrol station on Calder Road was targeted, with fireworks aimed at the premises. Riot police were called in to handle the violence, with buses diverted and roads closed off as gangs armed with fireworks and bats roamed the area. Firefighters also faced attacks as they responded to various incidents in the city.

Assistant Chief Constable Tim Mairs commended the emergency service workers for their bravery in the face of danger and condemned the violence directed at them. He emphasised the need for a thorough investigation to identify and bring to justice those involved in the disorder. Police Scotland is actively involved in pursuing the perpetrators of the Bonfire Night crimes across Edinburgh.

As the city grapples with the aftermath of the violent incidents, communities are coming together to support the affected businesses and individuals. The resilience and unity displayed in the face of such senseless destruction are a testament to the strength of the Edinburgh community. Authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents, and efforts are ongoing to prevent any such incidents in the future.
