Funding gives a boost to charging points for electric vehicles

Funding boosts the expansion of electric vehicle charging points in South Lanarkshire, the Daily Record reports. The £3.5 million funding will enable South Lanarkshire Council, along with seven other councils in the Glasgow City Region, to install over 3000 additional charging points in the region. These new charging points will be implemented by a private sector operator selected by the councils, offering a variety of charging speeds to cater to different electric vehicles across the City Region.

South Lanarkshire Council’s Leader, Joe Fagan, highlighted the positive impact electric vehicles can have on reducing carbon emissions. He expressed hope that the increased availability of charge points will encourage more drivers to adopt electric vehicles, contributing towards national climate targets. The councils will collaborate in the coming months to outline proposals for the market, with the aim of establishing a comprehensive network of EV charging infrastructure in the region.

This initiative aims to address accessibility challenges faced by residents living in flats who may not have access to home charging facilities. By strategically installing charge points in areas that may not typically attract private sector investment, a more inclusive transition to zero-emission transport is envisioned. This collaborative effort demonstrates a proactive approach towards sustainable mobility and environmental stewardship in the Glasgow City Region.
