Dumfries Station and its dedicated team of gardening volunteers have achieved remarkable success in the annual ScotRail in the Community Awards. The Dumfries Adoptive Railway Gardeners have clinched the prestigious title of Scotland’s Adopted Station of the Year for the Dumfriesshire train station, marking their second consecutive win. Furthermore, at the ceremony held at the voco Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow, the group was also honoured as the Adopter(s) of the Year in recognition of their outstanding contributions.
The Dumfries Adoptive Railway Gardeners, comprising a group of 10 volunteers, are responsible for maintaining two gardens at Dumfries Station with a diverse range of plantings that have charmed travellers passing through. Judges commended the group for their exceptional efforts in creating a welcoming environment for all station users, garnering praise from the local community. The volunteers’ commitment to sustainability is evident in their year-round work to transition from annuals to perennials and attract wildlife to the gardens.
