Lanarkshire men’s sheds to stage open day

Lanarkshire Men’s Sheds to Host Open Day
Men’s sheds across Lanarkshire are gearing up to welcome visitors and potential new members during their inaugural open doors day later this month. The Stonehouse, Kirkmuirhill, and Biggar sheds will be showcasing the activities and camaraderie they offer, encouraging more men to join their community. Organised by the Scottish Men’s Sheds Association (SMSA), the special event will take place on Tuesday, November 19, coinciding with International Men’s Day. The SMSA hopes this open day will not only attract new interest but also become a recurring annual event.
Stonehouse Men’s Shed on King Street will be open from 12:30pm to 3:30pm, while the Kirkmuirhill & Blackwood shed on Thornton Road will welcome visitors from 11am to 2pm. The Biggar shed, located in the former Walston Primary in Elsrickle, will be open from 10am to 4pm and again from 6pm to 9pm. SMSA, labelled as “Scotland’s largest member-led men’s health and wellbeing charity,” recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. The association hopes that this open day will increase awareness of the benefits sheds provide in improving quality of life.
CEO Jason Schroeder expressed excitement about the upcoming event, stating, “We wanted to launch something new for International Men’s Day to reach more men and with doors swung wide open, this is an opportunity to raise the profile of Sheds.” Lanarkshire has seen a surge in men’s shed activity, with the Carluke shed being named a finalist in the annual awards. The Lowther men’s shed in Leadhills is also on track to establish its own premises, signalling the movement’s growth and impact in the region.
The men’s sheds movement, with its focus on community, support, and wellbeing, continues to make strides in Lanarkshire. The upcoming open day presents a unique opportunity for individuals to witness the positive impact of these sheds on men’s health and social connections.
