Youth groups in Rutherglen encouraged to join new initiative which highlights harms of vaping

Youth groups in Rutherglen are being urged to participate in a new ASH Scotland initiative that sheds light on the dangers of vaping and smoking. The Youth Conversations Hub aims to provide educational resources on smoking and vaping to empower young individuals to make informed decisions regarding their long-term health. ASH Scotland will be hosting a series of events, both in-person and online, through the hub to offer opportunities for those involved in youth organizations to connect and enhance their understanding of how tobacco and e-cigarettes impact young people’s health.

The hub also serves as a platform for young people to share their perspectives and experiences on smoking and vaping through a youth survey running until Friday, November 29. Sheila Duffy, the Chief Executive for ASH Scotland, expressed delight in launching the Youth Conversations Hub, stressing the importance of equipping youth group leaders and volunteers with the necessary tools to engage in conversations with young individuals about smoking and vaping. The aim is to empower young people to reject smoking and vaping by raising awareness of the marketing tactics used by the tobacco and e-cigarette industries to target young demographics.

By joining ASH Scotland’s Youth Conversations Hub, youth organizations can support local young individuals in making healthier choices and becoming advocates for a tobacco-free generation. ASH Scotland is committed to ensuring that young people’s voices are heard, and the organization is inviting youth organizations to participate in a survey aimed at driving actions that will contribute to Scotland’s goal of becoming a tobacco-free generation by 2034. In summary, ASH Scotland’s new initiative in Rutherglen provides a valuable platform for youth groups to engage in critical discussions about the risks associated with smoking and vaping. By empowering young individuals with knowledge and resources, the initiative aims to inspire a generation of informed decision-makers who prioritize their physical and mental well-being. Youth participation is key to driving meaningful change and working towards a future free from tobacco-related harms.
