Knife thug who stabbed Celtic fan in the heart outside Glasgow flat jailed for 17 years

Knife Attacker Sentenced to 17 Years for Fatal Stabbing of Celtic Fan in Glasgow
Alan Robertson, the knife thug responsible for fatally stabbing Allan Doris in the heart outside a flat in Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire, has been sentenced to a minimum of 17 years in prison. The tragic incident occurred on February 13, 2023, when the 43-year-old Celtic fan was attacked by Robertson, leading to his untimely death despite efforts by a friend to assist him.
During the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, jurors learned that Robertson claimed he was unaware of how Mr. Doris sustained his injuries. However, he was found guilty of murder. The prosecutor, Chris MacIntosh, highlighted Robertson’s history of violent offences and possession of offensive weapons, including an axe. Judge Douglas Brown, in passing the life sentence, acknowledged the devastating impact of Mr. Doris’ death on his family, describing him as a “much loved father, son and brother.”
The court heard that the fatal altercation took place after the men had been together in Robertson’s flat before Mr. Doris left and was followed by the assailant. Witnesses reported seeing Robertson in a state of rage before he fatally struck Mr. Doris in the chest with a knife. Despite efforts to seek medical help, Mr. Doris succumbed to his injuries before emergency services could save him.
In his defence, Robertson denied being angry on the day of the incident and claimed ignorance of how Mr. Doris was injured. However, the prosecution argued that his testimony was inconsistent and designed to deceive. During sentencing, Robertson maintained his innocence, with his lawyer, Victoria Young, affirming his stance from the trial.
The judge’s remarks emphasised the brutal nature of the attack and the irreparable loss experienced by Mr. Doris’ loved ones. The tragic circumstances serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of senseless violence in communities.
