Couple build DIY ‘tiny house’ from scratch – people can’t believe how much it cost them

A couple has captured the attention of many by showcasing their DIY ‘tiny house’ that they built from scratch, leaving people astonished at the cost involved. Brooke and Sol managed to create their charming property for just £35,000, despite its compact size of only 36ft-long. Despite its small footprint, the house is filled with impressive features that cater to all their needs.
In a recent TikTok post, Brooke and Sol expressed their delight in how their house turned out, emphasizing their satisfaction with their cosy abode. The viral tiny home showcases a well-equipped kitchen with ample storage, a living area complete with a breakfast bar and a sofa, and a bathroom featuring a walk-in shower and a stylish sink area. Upstairs, there is a balcony-style bedroom with a comfortable double bed.
The couple, hailing from Maine in the US, took on the design and construction of the house themselves, drawing out their plans on a large poster board without official blueprints. With Sol’s expertise as a carpenter and woodworker, they managed to complete the build independently, with some assistance from friends and family. Despite the challenges they faced in obtaining planning permission and funding, they persevered and successfully realised their dream home.
Since completing their home in 2021, Brooke and Sol have chronicled their journey on social media, sharing glimpses of their tiny house living experience. Their property, although petite, also features a spacious decking area for their dog and guests, along with a charming campfire spot in the garden overlooking forest space. Following a tour of their property on TikTok, the couple received an outpouring of admiration and praise from viewers.
Tiny houses are legal in the UK, but certain restrictions apply, as permanent structures may require planning permission and Building Regulations approval. The Caravan Act offers an alternative option outside standard planning rules for those interested in tiny house living. Overall, Brooke and Sol’s DIY ‘tiny house’ serves as an inspiration for aspiring homeowners looking to downsize and live more sustainably.
