Young boxers from Toryglen club travel to Ireland and put on ‘incredible’ shows


Young boxers from the Southside Boxing Academy & Community Hub in Toryglen showcased their talent and determination as they travelled to Ireland to compete in two prestigious boxing competitions, leaving a lasting impression on spectators. The young boxers participated in events held in both Belfast and Wexford within a span of just over a week, demonstrating their skills and bringing home a collection of medals.

The first competition took place during the Belfast Halloween Box Cup weekend, where over 400 fighters competed. The Southside Boxing Academy team secured two gold medals and two silvers, with boxer Zain Iqbal also receiving a special award for his outstanding performances during the event. Coach Anthony Quayle praised the boxers for their remarkable display, highlighting the dedication and hard work put in by the coaching team of Anton, Bryan, and Lyndsey to achieve this success.

Following their success in Belfast, the young boxers regrouped and set their sights on the Wexford Box Cup the following week. With approximately 500 entries in total, the competition in Wexford was fierce. The Southside Boxing Academy once again shone, clinching an impressive five gold medals and a silver out of nine entries, ultimately finishing third overall in the competition.

Coach Anthony expressed his pride in the team’s performance at the Wexford Box Cup, emphasising the dedication and talent displayed by the boxers.
