A man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a brutal attack on another individual in a Perthshire street, as reported by the Daily Record. Lee Mullen, aged 31, was convicted for his violent assault on Lindsay Milton at Davie Park, Rattray, on June 19, 2023. The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Mullen had stolen Mr. Milton’s Transit van earlier that evening. When Mr. Milton confronted Mullen, the latter viciously attacked him, witnessed by shocked onlookers.
Witnesses described Mullen repeatedly punching and kicking Mr. Milton, causing him to fall to the ground and then continuing the assault by stomping on him. Following the attack, Mullen fled the scene but was later apprehended by the police at his girlfriend’s residence. Mullen pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder, vehicle theft, careless driving, and other offences related to the incident.
During the sentencing, Judge John Morris QC condemned Mullen’s actions as a “dreadful offence” and “a truly brutal assault on a member of the public who was trying to take control of his property.” The judge highlighted the severe injuries inflicted on Mr. Milton, noting the lasting impact on his life. Despite expressing remorse, Mullen was sentenced to nine years in prison and will be under supervision for three years post-release.
The court heard details of the incident, which began with Mr. Milton parking his vehicle outside a hotel before it was stolen by Mullen. The attack left Mr. Milton unconscious for several minutes, requiring emergency treatment and a nine-day hospital stay. The victim suffered significant financial losses due to the assault and continues to recover from his injuries.
In conclusion, the assailant’s actions led to a significant prison sentence, reflecting the gravity of the offence and the lasting impact on the victim’s life. This case serves as a reminder of the consequences of violent behaviour and the importance of upholding the law to protect individuals in society.
