Blaze rips through Edinburgh city centre as police urge people to ‘avoid the area’

A fire broke out in Edinburgh city centre, prompting police to advise people to “avoid the area”. The incident, reported at around 3:34pm, led to the closure of Rose Street to pedestrians on Castle Street and Frederick Street. Several shops were instructed to shut early as emergency services responded to the scene. Devil’s Scribe, a tattoo parlour on Rose Street, shared on Instagram that they had to close early due to a fire in a building site across the street.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deployed five appliances and one height appliance to tackle the blaze. Police Scotland confirmed the road closure and urged the public to stay away from the affected area. Devil’s Scribe apologised for any inconvenience caused by the closure and missed appointments due to the fire.
