‘Coward’ left girlfriend dead in bed for 30 hours after finding her unresponsive

A man has been labelled a “self-serving coward” after leaving his girlfriend dead in bed for 30 hours. Ryan Sheridan, now 34, found his girlfriend Kimberley McAssey unresponsive in his flat after they had consumed MDMA and had sex. Sheridan waited for over a day before his mother eventually called the police to report the death.
The inquest into Kimberley’s death revealed that Sheridan failed to take immediate action, fearing arrest due to drug use and facing assault allegations. He waited before contacting the authorities, prompting the coroner to criticise his selfishness and disregard for Kimberley. Kimberley, a mother from Salford, worked at Armstrongs chip shop in Prestwich.
Police discovered text messages between Ryan and Kimberley suggesting they had not been in contact for a while before meeting on the evening of February 19, 2021. After her death, a bag of MDMA worth £20 was found in Sheridan’s flat, and he admitted to delaying reporting the incident. His mother was also criticised for prioritising her son’s needs over alerting the authorities promptly.
The coroner concluded that Kimberley was a sporadic drug user who likely became unresponsive during intercourse. The exact cause of her death remained unascertained due to a lack of evidence. Addressing Kimberley’s family, the coroner extended condolences and encouraged them to remember the positive aspects of Kimberley’s life despite the tragic circumstances.
This case highlights the devastating consequences of drug use and the importance of seeking help promptly in emergency situations. It serves as a reminder of the need for individuals to prioritise the well-being and safety of others over personal fears or concerns. Proper communication and timely action can make a significant difference in potentially life-threatening scenarios like the one involving Ryan Sheridan and Kimberley McAssey.
