Ex-Scots boxer preyed on woman while wearing horror mask and carrying machete

Ex-Scots Boxer Terrorizes Woman with Horror Mask and Machete

Former Scottish boxer, Ryan McNicol, 42, has been found guilty of engaging in a campaign of terror against a woman in Glasgow between December 2019 and July 2023. McNicol, who was seen wearing a horror mask and carrying a machete, subjected the woman to verbal abuse, physical restrictions, and intimidation tactics. The court heard that he wore a ‘Jason’ mask from ‘Friday the 13th’ while moving around his living room at midnight, claiming it was to entertain a child in the house who was having nightmares.

McNicol faced charges of abusive behavior and breaching bail conditions by contacting the woman after his initial release from custody. Despite his 48 recorded fights as a boxer, McNicol managed to avoid jail time and was sentenced to 110 hours of unpaid work, 20 months of supervision, and a two-year non-harassment order. The victim testified that she endured verbal abuse, assault, and threats from McNicol, leading her to fear for her life.

A neighbour testified to seeing McNicol with a mask and machete, providing crucial evidence in the case. Prosecutor Darren Harty described McNicol’s behavior as “intimate terrorism,” highlighting the severity of his actions. Police discovered multiple locks on doors and covered windows at McNicol’s residence, indicating a pattern of controlling and manipulative behavior towards the victim.

Despite McNicol’s claims that the mask was meant to amuse a child, the court saw through his justifications and exposed his true character. The judge, Sheriff Joan Kerr, issued a stern sentence to protect the victim from any further harm. McNicol’s frightening and abusive behavior serves as a stark reminder of the impact of domestic violence and the need for strong legal measures to combat such actions.

In conclusion, the case of Ryan McNicol underscores the prevalence of domestic abuse and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. The justice system’s response to such cases plays a crucial role in providing protection and support to victims of abuse. It is essential for society to condemn such behavior and work towards creating a safer environment for all individuals, free from fear and intimidation.
