Lanarkshire Beekeepers Association marks 10th anniversary with spectacular Honey Show

The Lanarkshire Beekeepers Association celebrated its 10th anniversary with a magnificent Honey Show and a special dinner event, attracting beekeepers of all ages, from infants to great-grandparents. Despite the wintry snowy weather, members braved the conditions to attend the show, bringing an impressive total of 134 exhibits. This turnout earned the association the prestigious National Honey Show’s Blue Ribbon Award.
Established over ten years ago, the Lanarkshire Beekeepers Association originated from the Lanarkshire Beekeepers Network, which was founded by Jackie Reid. The initial meeting took place in a primary school, where the founding members, seated on infants’ chairs, laid the groundwork for what would evolve into a thriving community of beekeepers. Since then, membership has grown to over 100 members, and in 2021, the association attained SCIO charity status.
In line with the principles set out by William Thomson, known as The Lanarkshire Beekeeper in 1874, members of the association aim to be supportive, honest, and collaborative, embodying an active and friendly community spirit. This was evident at the Honey Show, where members exhibited a spirit of camaraderie and mutual assistance.
The Honey Show was judged by esteemed National Honey Show judges, Christine and Peter Matthews, who commended the association for its well-presented exhibits and the warm and cooperative atmosphere at the event. They expressed gratitude for being invited to judge the show and remarked on the positive atmosphere and teamwork demonstrated by all involved.
The Lanarkshire Beekeepers Association’s milestone 10th anniversary celebration not only highlighted the dedication and passion of its members but also underscored the importance of community and collaboration in beekeeping. The event served as a testament to the thriving beekeeping community in Lanarkshire and the hard work put in by its members to promote and preserve the art of beekeeping.
