Leonidas Ramsden, who was born on Christmas Day in 2021, passed away at his residence in Buckfastleigh, Devon, back in April 2022. Unfortunately, Leonidas was found face down and unresponsive on the mat by his mother, Chloe, the following morning.

Chloe, aged 21, had initially laid Leonidas on the play mat for feeding comfort, clarifying that she never left him unattended in that position. The inquest further mentioned that the cause of death could not be definitively determined during the post-mortem examination, with suggestions pointing towards sudden unexplained death in infancy.

Detective Constable Donna Tullock raised concerns about the safety of the equipment, indicating that while it was referred to as a sleeping pod, it resembled more of an underlay for a play mat. The area coroner for Devon, Alison Longhorn, concluded that Leonidas passed away due to being found in a face-down sleeping position on the mat, leading to restrictions in his ability to breathe freely, ultimately resulting in asphyxiation.
