All set for Dumfries Festival of Remembrance

The Crichton Memorial Church in Dumfries is preparing for an evening filled with music, hymns, poems, and readings at the upcoming Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, November 9th, at 7 pm. The event, organised by the Dumfries Veterans Garden in collaboration with the Dumfries and Galloway Regional Youth Choir, Royal British Legion Scotland Dumfries and Maxwelltown Branch, and Dumfries and Galloway Council, promises to be a poignant and memorable occasion.

One of the highlights of the Festival will be the construction of a Drumhead Altar by members of the Dumfries Veterans Garden, set against a backdrop of moving performances. Tickets priced at £10 can be purchased in advance from the Veterans Garden, Anderson Kilts, and Molly May’s Tea Room, or at the venue on the night. The ceremony will feature prayers led by Reverend Tom Bonnar, music from Annan Town Band and piper Billy Geddes, as well as the haunting sounds of the Last Post and Reveille by Olivia Beckett.

The event will also include readings and speeches from various dignitaries, including Councillor Archie Dryburgh MBE, Armed Forces Champion for the region. Standard bearers from the RBLS Dumfries and Maxwelltown branch will be in attendance, along with Provost of Dumfries Maureen Johnston, who will read a poignant poem during the service.
