Balaclava gunman wrestled to ground by hero Scots Nisa local staff during robbery is jailed
A would-be armed robber’s plan to hold up a post office was thwarted by courageous workers, resulting in his imprisonment for four years and eight months. The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Robert Danskin, 36, entered NISA local store in Abbey View, Dunfermline, wearing a balaclava and brandishing a realistic imitation gun. Danskin demanded money from staff member Cheryl Gourlay, but she bravely refused to comply. When Cheryl’s colleagues came to her aid, a scuffle ensued, during which one staff member managed to disarm Danskin before police arrived to arrest him.
Lord Scott, presiding over the case, commended Cheryl and her colleagues for their bravery in confronting the armed robber. Danskin, who admitted to committing the crime to pay off a drug debt, was sentenced to prison and ordered to be supervised upon release. The court heard that Danskin’s actions were driven by desperation, as he faced threats from drug dealers.
Following the incident, the community rallied behind the post office staff, with a fundraiser launched to show gratitude for their heroic actions. Social media users lauded the workers for their courage in disarming the assailant and preventing a potentially dangerous situation from escalating further. The court also heard that the firearm used by Danskin was an Airsoft gun, bearing a striking resemblance to a real firearm.
Danskin’s defence solicitor advocate, Ann Ogg, highlighted her client’s remorse and explained that he had chosen to plead guilty at the earliest opportunity. Lord Scott acknowledged Danskin’s decision to take responsibility for his actions but stressed the seriousness of the offence. He urged Danskin to seek help and support to overcome his drug addiction and turn his life around.
In conclusion, the incident at the NISA local store serves as a testament to the bravery and quick thinking of the staff members who risked their safety to protect others. The outcome reinforces the importance of community support and solidarity in the face of adversity.
