Boozy Scots chef attacked hotel colleagues during staff Christmas night


A chef in Scotland has been ordered to compensate his former colleagues after assaulting them during a staff Christmas night out. 31-year-old Ross McDevitt attacked two staff members at the Atholl Arms Hotel in Blair Atholl, Perthshire, leading to his dismissal from his position. The incident occurred during a festive celebration organised by the hotel’s management on February 7, 2023. Tempers flared during the party, with McDevitt assaulting Darren Morris and Kyle Bruce before being ejected from the premises.

At Perth Sheriff Court, Fiscal Depute Kate Scarborough described the events, stating that an altercation took place towards the end of the evening as the party was winding down. McDevitt pushed Mr. Morris, causing him to fall and hit his head, before grabbing Mr. Bruce by the neck and throwing him to the ground multiple times. Police were called, and McDevitt was taken into custody. McDevitt admitted to the assaults and expressed regret for his actions.

In his defence, solicitor Linda Clark mentioned that McDevitt had consumed alcohol excessively during the delayed Christmas party. McDevitt, who had a previously good relationship with the victims, apologised to the hotel owner for the police involvement. Consequently, he lost his job and no longer works with the two individuals involved. Sheriff William Gilchrist ordered McDevitt to pay £500 in compensation to Mr. Morris and £250 to Mr. Bruce for the assaults.
