Broken lift leaves elderly residents stuck in their Cambuslang flats for over a month

A broken lift at Maple Tree Court in Cambuslang has left elderly residents stranded in their flats for over a month. The housing block, managed by Hanover Scotland Housing Association, is home to many residents with mobility issues who have been unable to leave their homes due to the faulty lift. Initially informed that the lift would be fixed by October 25, residents were later notified of further delays as additional parts needed to be sourced after engineers identified more damage. The association issued an apology to residents, citing challenges in obtaining replacement parts due to global supply chain issues.
Hugh McCabe, a resident on the third floor, expressed his frustration at the situation, highlighting the struggles faced by those with mobility challenges. He described the prolonged ordeal as “horrible” and raised concerns about the lack of maintenance in the building over the years. Many residents, including those with limited mobility, have been confined to their flats, unable to access essential services or amenities. Despite the association’s efforts to expedite the repair process, residents continue to endure the inconvenience caused by the out-of-service lift.
Hanover Scotland’s Director of Asset Management, Maurissa Fergusson, acknowledged the impact of the lift outage on residents and assured that necessary replacement parts have been secured. She attributed the delays to global supply chain issues and changes in trade regulations but emphasized the association’s commitment to resolving the situation promptly. Housing officers have been conducting welfare checks and providing updates to affected residents to ensure their needs are being met during this challenging period.
The association’s efforts to address the lift repair and support affected residents demonstrate their commitment to prioritizing the wellbeing and safety of those living in Maple Tree Court. Despite the unforeseen delays and challenges, Hanover Scotland remains dedicated to resolving the issue and providing ongoing assistance to residents until the lift is fully operational once again.
