Cocaine-fuelled thug stabbed young mum 45 times in “vicious and frenzied” attack

A young mum was brutally stabbed more than 45 times in her own home by a cocaine-fuelled thug in a “vicious and frenzied” attack, according to a judge’s ruling. The assailant, Michael Porchetta, 28, fatally stabbed Aimee Cannon after she had rejected his advances, insisting they were just friends. Aimee’s father discovered her lifeless body the day after the attack in West Calder, West Lothian on May 7, 2022. Porchetta, who was declared unfit to stand trial for murder, appeared at a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow where Lord Mulholland found him responsible for the brutal attack “beyond reasonable doubt”.

During the hearing, Lord Mulholland described the attack on Aimee as “vicious” and “frenzied,” highlighting the horrific nature of the crime committed by someone Aimee considered a friend. The court heard details of the injuries sustained by Aimee, including at least 45 stab wounds and multiple clean cut wounds. Porchetta, currently detained at the State Hospital at Carstairs, will undergo further psychiatric evaluation as the case is adjourned until the New Year.

Evidence presented in court indicated Porchetta’s attempts to conceal his actions after the attack, but forensic evidence, including DNA, revealed the truth. Witnesses described Porchetta’s drug abuse and aggressive behaviour towards Aimee, which culminated in the tragic event. The court also heard accounts of Porchetta’s changing alibis and attempts to dispose of incriminating evidence.

The harrowing details of Aimee’s murder have left her family and the community devastated, highlighting the tragic consequences of drug abuse and violence. The case serves as a stark reminder of the need for mental health support and intervention to prevent such senseless acts of brutality from occurring in the future.

In conclusion, the tragic story of Aimee Cannon’s brutal murder at the hands of a cocaine-addicted assailant sheds light on the devastating impact of drug abuse and violence in our communities. The pursuit of justice for Aimee and her grieving family underscores the importance of addressing mental health issues and supporting those at risk to prevent such horrific tragedies.
