Controlled explosion of ‘suspicious item’ at Buchanan Bus Station as three men arrested


A controlled explosion was conducted at Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow after authorities found a potential suspicious item in the city centre. The incident led to the closure of the bus station for several hours as bomb disposal experts were called in to assess the situation. Police received a report of the suspicious item at around 1.10pm, prompting the evacuation of the bus station and surrounding buildings, including Glasgow Caledonian University as a precaution. Earlier in the day, three men were arrested in connection with possession of offensive weapons. Police Scotland confirmed the arrests and stated that enquiries are ongoing. The disruption in the city centre also affected transportation, with a section of the M8 motorway being temporarily closed and train services at Queen Street halted during the operation at the bus station.

In response to the incident, a Police Scotland spokesperson said, “Three men have been arrested following an incident at Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow on Wednesday, 20 November, 2024.” As the area is being returned to normal, police authorities are working to ensure the safety and security of the public. Services at Queen Street high level have since resumed after the police activity at Buchanan bus station was concluded.
