Two days after being granted bail at Hamilton Sheriff Court, Gibb engaged in threatening and abusive behaviour at the store. At Hamilton Sheriff Court, Gibb, 22, pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. Additionally, he admitted to possessing a knife without reasonable excuse in McNeil Lane, Larkhall.

According to Neil Thomson, the prosecutor, Gibb entered the shop seeking gun pellets, claiming he intended to harm himself. When the shopkeeper refused to sell him the pellets, Gibb became aggressive, shouting and swearing at the staff. He then revealed a BB gun and cocked the weapon in front of the shop staff, escalating the situation. Despite staff members refusing to sell him the pellets, Gibb waved the gun before departing. The authorities were alerted, leading to Gibb’s discovery in Larkhall. Upon being searched, officers found the BB gun and a four-inch blade knife in his possession.

During the court proceedings, Gibb’s defence agent, Gregor Jarrott, acknowledged his client’s mental health struggles. However, Jarrott also acknowledged the serious nature of the charges Gibb faced. Sheriff Liam Murphy remarked on the terrifying experience the shop staff endured, acknowledging the gravity of the situation. Gibb’s sentencing was postponed to a later date, pending background reports, and he was remanded in custody.
