Dumfries and Galloway man takes on challenge to run around coastline of Mauritius

A man from Dumfries and Galloway has embarked on a challenging journey to run around the coastline of Mauritius. Chris Thomson, a 34-year-old adrenaline junkie from Glenkens, has taken on the ambitious TourdeMauritius to raise awareness and funds for various charities such as Movember, Mind, Dementia UK, British Heart Foundation, MNDA, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, and Maggie’s Cancer Care.

Thomson began his expedition on Monday with the goal of completing the run and returning to the capital of Port Louis by Saturday evening. He shared his enthusiasm for the run in a social media post, describing his first day to Grand Riviere Noire as “awesome”. Despite the challenging heat, Thomson managed to stay hydrated and keep going, joking about his Scottish complexion coping with the conditions.

During his first day’s run, Thomson was accompanied by Yan De Maroussem, the current record holder for running around Mauritius. Thomson’s motivation for this run stems from a desire to raise awareness about mental health following the loss of a friend to suicide. In the past year, he has completed other impressive feats, including running 800 miles in November and December and running a 32-mile ultra marathon in each of Scotland’s 32 council areas in just 32 days, making him the first person to achieve this.

By tackling such ambitious feats, Thomson not only challenges himself physically but also spreads positivity and raises funds for worthy causes.
