Dumfries is gearing up to celebrate the festive season with an exciting array of events to mark the countdown to Christmas. The town will be illuminated by Christmas lights as part of the Lights of Hope initiative, spreading cheer and joy throughout the community. Organised by the Dumfries Partnership Action Group, the festive fun is set to kick off on Friday, November 15, with a diverse programme suitable for all ages.
The celebrations will include performances from various local talents such as the UK finalist of Channel 4’s series, The Piano 2024, Alice Faye, Dumfries Town Band, and the cast of the pantomime, Hansel & Gretel. The festivities will be hosted by Alive 107.3fm radio personality, Lee Medd. In addition to entertainment, there will be amusements, appearances by local sports teams like Queen of the South FC and Solway Sharks, as well as illuminated tractors for a fundraising run.
The highlight of the event will be the grand switch-on of the Christmas lights by reigning Queen of the South, Lucy Galligan, at 6.30pm. Following the switch-on, Santa’s sleigh, led by real reindeer, will parade through the town centre, spreading festive cheer. The Lights of Hope, sponsored by The People’s Project, will once again adorn the town with extra lights along the river and bridges, staying illuminated well into the New Year.
Mark Smith, an organiser of the event, expressed the community’s enthusiasm for coming together to celebrate the festive season.
