Dumfriesshire academic delighted with honorary fellowship

Internationally renowned academic Professor Mark Allison from Dumfries in Dumfriesshire has been honoured with an appointment as an Honorary Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Born in Dumfries and raised in Loch Road and Terregles, Professor Allison attended St Joseph’s College. His late father, Colin Allison, was a partner in the renowned veterinary practice Allison, Murchie and Dickson in Dumfries. Currently residing in Edinburgh with his wife Nicola and two grown children, Professor Allison’s exceptional career in academia has been recognised through this prestigious fellowship, highlighting his significant contributions to accounting education.

Having volunteered at the college as the chairperson of its finance, audit, and risk committee in 2014, Professor Allison later became the first lay trustee at the college in 2021. Notably, Professor Allison played a pivotal role in establishing international standards for the education of accountants worldwide and has been a visiting professor at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen since 2004.
