Dumfriesshire community clean up success

In a heartwarming success story, the community of Dumfriesshire has come together for a massive clean-up effort that has left the area looking greener and cleaner. The Lincluden community, along with Wheatley Homes South, the region’s largest social landlord, organised a day of clean-up activities in North West Dumfries. This initiative saw the Neighbourhood Environmental Team (NETs) staff of Wheatley Homes South teaming up with tenants and staff from Dumfries and Galloway Council to spruce up the area.

The collaborative effort involved a range of activities such as cutting grass, collecting litter, tackling weeds and moss, and removing bulk waste. Alex Lamb, managing director at Wheatley Homes South, expressed his delight at the partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council, highlighting the positive impact the community clean-up has had. The NETs service, which was launched in Dumfries and Galloway in 2021, has been instrumental in transforming neighbourhoods across the region through various environmental activities.

In the past year, the NETs have collected over 1,300 tonnes of bulk waste and cleaned more than 8,000 stairwells, demonstrating the significant impact of their work. The enthusiastic participation and support from customers and partners have been crucial to the success of these initiatives, underscoring the importance of community involvement in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.
