Four men arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving offences in Lanarkshire


Four men have been arrested in Lanarkshire on Monday on suspicion of drink and drug driving offences following separate vehicle stops conducted by officers in the county.

The first arrest took place around 2.40pm on Loch Brora Crescent, Coatbridge, where police carried out a routine stop on a vehicle and noted a strong smell of cannabis emanating from the driver. A 38-year-old man was arrested after testing positive for cannabis and taken to a police station for blood samples. He was later released pending lab results.

In a subsequent incident at approximately 3.30pm, officers received reports of a car swerving on Tryst Road, Cumbernauld. A 43-year-old man was arrested after police found the vehicle with accident damage. He was also taken to a police office for blood samples and later released pending lab results.

Later that evening, at around 6.15pm, police stopped a vehicle on Airdrie Road where the driver was suspected of being under the influence of cannabis. A 30-year-old man was arrested, tested positive for cannabis, and taken to a police station for blood samples before being released pending lab results.

In another incident at 10.25pm on Gartsherrie Road, Coatbridge, police responded to reports of a possible drug deal involving a van and a pedestrian. A search of the van led to the discovery of a small bag containing white powder, which tested positive for cocaine. A 32-year-old man was arrested after testing positive for cocaine and cannabis, and was taken to a nearby police station for blood samples before being released pending lab results.

Police Scotland urged the public to report any suspicions of drink or drug driving and provided contact information for reporting such incidents.
