Gifted Lanarkshire youngster scores top marks in International English Olympiad


A talented young student from Lanarkshire has achieved remarkable success in an international English competition. Loukya Reddy Ravi, a pupil at St Kenneth’s Primary in East Kilbride, surpassed thousands of students worldwide to claim the gold medal in the 4th edition of the International English Olympiad. This prestigious competition focuses on enhancing English language skills across various aspects such as reading, listening, writing, and overall comprehension of contemporary and traditional English texts.

Participants in the Olympiad are challenged with 50 questions at each level, with outcomes determined by accuracy and completion time. Loukya excelled in the competition, earning a level 10 award. The British Youth International College (BYITC) awarded certificates and prizes to the top performers across all eight levels. Loukya’s parents, Radhika and Vishal, credited the success to the exceptional teaching methods at BYITC, praising their personalised approach and engaging learning techniques.

The International English Olympiad attracted thousands of students aged four to 14 from around the globe, with eight winners announced from Scotland, England, Ireland, and Dubai. Among the winners was Srishti Sriram from Glasgow, who achieved success at level 6. Dr Rashmi Mantri, the founder of BYITC, highlighted the competition’s blend of puzzles, grammar, vocabulary, reasoning, and comprehension, fostering students’ English proficiency and confidence in verbal and written communication.
