Gregg Wallace to ‘be replaced by rival host’ on MasterChef amid harassment probe

Gregg Wallace, the well-known host of MasterChef, is facing a potential replacement on the popular cooking show amid ongoing allegations of harassment. Wallace has decided to step back from his presenting role as the BBC conducts an external review into historical misconduct claims made against him. These allegations include instances of inappropriate behaviour such as pressing his crotch against a woman during filming on another show and touching a woman’s bottom at an event.

The 60-year-old presenter has consistently denied all allegations of engaging in any sexually harassing behaviour, with his lawyers refuting the claims. Staff members and former contestants from MasterChef, including celebrities like Emma Kennedy and Kirsty Wark, have reportedly expressed feeling uncomfortable around Wallace on set.

Recently, allegations made by Gregg’s ghostwriter, Shannon Kyle, have further escalated the situation. It was claimed that Wallace asked a British Sign Language interpreter to sign inappropriate phrases, including explicit terms, during an event in Birmingham in 2012. These allegations have prompted discussions about who might step into Gregg Wallace’s role on the show.

James Martin, a fellow TV chef and host of his own ITV series, is currently the frontrunner to replace Wallace on MasterChef, according to bookmakers. With his experience hosting cooking shows and his established career in the industry, Martin is seen as a potential candidate to join John Torode as a new face on the iconic series.

The decision to potentially replace Gregg Wallace comes in the wake of two MasterChef celebrity Christmas specials being pulled from the BBC’s schedule. Wallace issued an apology for his previous comments downplaying the accusations against him and announced that he would be taking some time away from the spotlight. The BBC’s investigation into the allegations is ongoing, with Wallace pledging full cooperation throughout the process.

As the search for a new host intensifies, names like John Torode’s wife Lisa Faulkner, celebrity chef Nigella Lawson, and TV personality Gino D’Acampo are also being considered for the role. It remains to be seen who will ultimately step into Gregg Wallace’s shoes on MasterChef as the show navigates through this challenging situation.
