Hollywood star Glen Powell Spotted in Glasgow as Streets Closed for Filming
Hollywood actor Glen Powell was spotted in Glasgow over the weekend as certain streets in the city were closed off for filming purposes. The city centre around Central Station and Blythswood Hill, along with sections of Trongate, east end Haghill, and west end Hillhead, were inaccessible to the public on Saturday.
According to reports from Glasgow Live, these areas are being utilised as filming locations for the remake of the 1987 film “The Running Man,” directed by Edgar Wright. The film, produced by Paramount Pictures and scheduled for release in November 2025, features Glen Powell in the lead role previously played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Other notable actors set to star in the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel include William H. Macy, Josh Brolin, Michael Cera, and Katy O’Brian.
Director Edgar Wright has expressed his intention to stay more faithful to King’s original novel in this remake. To accommodate the filming, various road closures have been implemented across the city centre from November 10 to November 24. The closures were mandated by Glasgow City Council to facilitate filming activities and ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians.
Local resident Dev Parkash noticed film crews on Renfrew Street in the early hours of Saturday morning and shared his excitement at seeing Glasgow feature in movie productions, despite the inconvenience caused by the road closures. The closed-off streets included Gordon Street, West Nile Street, Mitchell Street, Cambridge Street, Hope Street, Renfrew Street, Rose Street, Wellington Street, and others, with filming set to move to different areas of the city in the following days.
On Wednesday, filming will shift to Trongate, while on Friday, Haghill will be the filming location. Additionally, scenes will be shot outside the city centre, with Granby Lane in Hillhead set for filming on Thursday. The filming schedule indicates a return to the city centre on November 23 and 24 for further shooting on Bothwell Street, Wellington Street, Waterloo Street, and West Campbell Street.
In conclusion, Glasgow has once again embraced its role as a cinematic backdrop, hosting the filming of a highly anticipated Hollywood production. The city’s vibrant streets and historic locales serve as an ideal setting for bringing new life to classic stories on the silver screen. The presence of renowned actors and directors further solidifies Glasgow’s position as a sought-after location for the film industry, showcasing its versatility and charm to a global audience.
