‘I got revenge on police officer who parked in disabled space – it was epic’

A man recently shared an entertaining story on Reddit about how his dad sought revenge on a police officer who parked in a disabled space for over five hours in a local shopping centre car park. The man, whose father is paraplegic and drives a specially adapted car, detailed their evening plans for a movie night which were disrupted by the sight of a police car taking up the designated disabled bay.
In response, the man’s dad decided to park behind the police car, ensuring it wouldn’t block the road but definitely block the parked spot. They proceeded to enjoy a leisurely movie and a meal at a restaurant, deliberately taking their time to make a point. After about five hours, as they were leaving the mall, the man’s dad stayed back to pay for parking while the man went ahead to get the car ready for his dad and his wheelchair.
Upon returning to the car, they were confronted by a furious police officer who had plastered about 20 parking tickets on the windscreen. Despite the officer’s initial outburst, the man’s dad’s calm demeanor and the sight of the tickets seemed to turn the situation around. The police officer began apologising and removing the tickets, revealing that he had just quickly popped into the pharmacy.
However, the man’s dad was not easily swayed and decided to give the officer a taste of his own medicine. After some tense moments and feeble excuses from the officer, they eventually let him off with a warning. The Reddit post garnered several responses from users who shared similar experiences or expressed their disbelief at the situation.
One user, recalling a similar scenario with their paraplegic parent, commended the man for his actions. Another user found the entire incident unbelievable, highlighting the irony of a police officer waiting for hours to confront a car without a handicap sign in a disabled parking bay. A third user expressed a wish to have witnessed the interaction based on their own experiences with transporting a handicapped family member.
The story serves as a humorous yet thought-provoking anecdote about standing up for what is right and holding individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their authority. It underscores the importance of respecting designated spaces for people with disabilities and the impact of small acts of rebellion in bringing about positive change in society.
