Man avoids jail after cops find cannabis worth £8,500 in his Wishaw home

A man in Wishaw has managed to avoid prison time despite police discovering cannabis worth £8,500 in his home. Andrew McLeary, 53, from Kirkhill Road, Netherton, was found to be involved in the sale of drugs based on messages found on his phone, as revealed in Hamilton Sheriff Court. McLeary pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis between March 26 and April 10 last year.
The incident unfolded when police officers approached McLeary, who was seated in a car outside his residence at around 11.30 am. Upon detecting the smell of cannabis, the officers conducted a search and McLeary disclosed the presence of items in his home. A search warrant was obtained, leading to the discovery of a bag of cannabis and a mobile phone. Messages on the phone indicated involvement in the onward sale of cannabis dating back to March 26.
In the court hearing, Aislin O’Donnell, the prosecutor, reported the details of the case. As a consequence of his actions, McLeary has been placed under supervision for a year and ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid community work as part of his sentencing.
This outcome serves as a reminder of the consequences associated with drug-related activities and the importance of abiding by the law. It also highlights the role of law enforcement agencies in investigating and addressing such criminal behaviour to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
