Man twice hit with brick in shocking attack as he repaired car outside his girlfriend’s Coatbridge home

A shocking attack took place as a man was repairing a car outside his girlfriend’s home in Coatbridge. Mark Boyd, 45, pulled the man from under the vehicle and struck him twice on the head with a brick. The incident occurred on Dunure Street on February 18, where Boyd admitted to assaulting the man, causing injury and permanent disfigurement. The victim, who was working under the vehicle at his partner’s residence, was approached by Boyd who removed a brick from his trousers and proceeded to hit him. Despite the victim’s attempt to defend himself by pushing Boyd away, he was hit twice on the head before Boyd walked away, leaving the victim with cuts to his forehead and above his eyebrow which required hospital treatment.

Prosecutor Kevin Morrow revealed that the assault happened around midday and escalated as the victim picked up a metal bar to strike Boyd in retaliation. A stand-up fight ensued between the two men, which was eventually broken up by members of the public. Following the altercation, the victim was left with some scarring as a result of the injuries sustained. Sheriff Derek Livingston deferred sentencing for Boyd, pending background reports and an electronic tagging assessment, while reminding Boyd of the gravity of his actions by stating that all options are on the table for his punishment.

The disturbing incident highlights the vulnerability individuals face even in familiar surroundings like their own partner’s home. Such acts of violence not only cause physical harm but also leave lasting emotional trauma on victims and their families. It is crucial for authorities to swiftly address and condemn such acts to ensure the safety of communities and deter future occurrences of violence.

In summary, the harrowing experience faced by the man repairing his car in Coatbridge serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers individuals may encounter, even in seemingly secure environments. The legal proceedings following the assault emphasize the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions and seeking justice for victims of violence. Vigilance and support from the community are essential in creating a safer and more secure society for all individuals.
