Man who threatened to slit bar worker’s throat found to be carrying drugs

A man who threatened to slit a bar worker’s throat was found to be carrying drugs worth thousands of pounds. Police officers who were called to the scene in East Kilbride seized cocaine, ecstasy and street valium from Nicki Morgan. He was also carrying £1700 in cash, Hamilton Sheriff Court was told.

Morgan, 32, appeared from custody and admitted threatening or abusive behaviour at Harvester in Eaglesham Road on May 24. He also admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs and having two knives in public without reasonable excuse.

Rebecca Clark, prosecuting, said Morgan became aggressive towards a member of staff after ordering a drink shortly before midnight. She told the court: “He stated ‘I’m going to slit your throat’. The police were contacted and officers found him in a taxi. He was searched and was in possession of £1700 and four bags of cocaine worth around £2000. Police also seized a set of scales, four phones, 1044 etizolam (street valium) tablets worth £600 and 45 ecstasy tablets with a value of £470.

Defence lawyer Andy Thomson said Morgan’s drugs consumption at that time had led to him leaving the home he shared with his partner and child. Mr Thomson added: “He was staying in a hotel and sofa surfing. When arrested he was carrying all his worldly goods. His partner remains supportive of him.”

Morgan admitted previous convictions and sentence was deferred until next month for background reports. He was remanded in custody.
