Met Office confirms exact date Scotland will see snow and ‘Arctic’ temperatures this week
The Met Office has predicted the “possibility of snow” in Scotland this weekend as temperatures are set to take a dramatic dip below freezing in the coming days. The last few weeks have certainly had a winter chill in the air as the mercury has noticeably dropped, but conditions are expected to take a significant “shift” at the end of this week and into next with potential “warnings for winter hazards”.
WX Charts show that temperatures will hit lows of -5°C in Scotland on Sunday, November 17, with up to 15cm of snow depth expected in the Highlands before the freezing conditions will plunge even further to -12°C on Tuesday, November 19. According to the weather maps, temperatures will remain at an average of -10°C for Scotland until the end of the month on Wednesday, November 27, where conditions are predicted to rise back to 0°C.
It comes after the meteorological site predicted seven days of snow to hit the country from next week. The Met Office has highlighted that the change in weather is set to come into effect this coming Sunday. Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway said: “The high pressure that has been responsible for the mainly dry weather through much of this week will retrogress into the Atlantic as we get towards the weekend.
The Met Office has also advised that “warnings for winter hazards are possible later in the weekend” and have urged people to stay up to date with the latest forecast in their area.
In the Met Office’s five-day forecast, today is expected to start grey for many with some fog patches and a little drizzle in places. Tonight is predicted to be cloudy with hill fog and patchy drizzle across many northern areas, with clear spells in eastern Scotland, central and southern England and Wales. On Friday, most of central and southern England, south Wales, and eastern Scotland will see mostly dry conditions with sunshine, while other parts will be cloudier with hill fog and drizzle.
The outlook for Saturday to Monday includes rain moving south across England and Wales on Saturday, colder conditions with blustery showers elsewhere; followed by wind, rain, and hill snow on Sunday, and widely colder conditions with sunshine and showers, some wintry, on Monday.
In summary, Scotland is bracing for sub-zero temperatures and the possibility of significant snowfall this weekend and into next week, with the Met Office issuing warnings for potential winter hazards. Residents are advised to stay informed about the changing weather conditions and be prepared for the wintry spell ahead.
