LeGresley, 37, was a member of a Telegram group that produced and funded recordings of monkeys being tortured in Indonesia. The videos depicted the helpless animals being subjected to brutal treatment such as being pummelled, soaked in acid, and blended.

Last year, a BBC investigation uncovered this network involving the two British women, leading to the arrest and prosecution of LeGresley and Orme. LeGresley was sentenced to two years in prison for uploading images and videos of monkey torture to online chat groups and making payments to encourage cruelty. On the other hand, Orme, 56, was sentenced to 15 months after pleading guilty to sharing obscene content and facilitating animal suffering by sending money to fund the torture.

During the sentencing at Worcester Crown Court, Judge James Burbidge KC expressed disbelief at the evidence presented, questioning how the defendants, who were of good character, could engage in such horrifying activities. The court learned that the torture ring, which spanned from Indonesia to the US, involved individuals paying for recommendations on torturing and killing baby long-tailed macaques. Among the abused monkeys was Mini, who became infamous within the ring for the cruel treatment she endured.

The investigation revealed that the torture network initially operated on YouTube before transitioning to secret Telegram groups to cater to the demand for more extreme abuse. The defendants’ participation in online chat rooms that advocated for the torture of animals highlighted the disturbing nature of their actions and the impact of such activities on innocent creatures. The judge’s harsh sentencing reflects the severity of the crimes committed by LeGresley and Orme, who are now serving time for their involvement in this heinous network.
