Motorist fined for parking on hard shoulder of Scots motorway to get drone footage of castle

A motorist incurred a fine and penalty points after being caught parked on the hard shoulder of a motorway in Scotland while attempting to capture drone footage of a historic castle. The incident took place on the M9 near Stirling when road policing officers spotted the driver in the act. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the driver had stopped to fly a drone over Stirling Castle.

Police Scotland intervened and issued the driver with a £100 ticket and three penalty points. In a social media statement, Police Scotland emphasised that hard shoulders are designated for emergencies only, and stopping for any other purpose is a violation of the Highway Code.

The Highway Code stipulates that motorists should not stop on the hard shoulder, emergency areas, or any other non-designated stopping areas except in emergencies or under specific instructions from authorities. The driver’s actions not only endangered themselves but also posed a risk to other road users.

This incident serves as a reminder for all drivers to adhere to road regulations and prioritize safety at all times. It is crucial to understand and respect traffic laws to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of everyone on the road. Let this be a lesson to all motorists to use designated areas for intended purposes and to always prioritise safety over convenience.
