North Lanarkshire cadets receive prestigious award for contribution to the organisation

North Lanarkshire cadets have been honoured with a prestigious award for their outstanding contribution to the organisation. The Cadet Adult Recognition Awards (CARAs) have been recognising the hard work and dedication of Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) for the past five years. These volunteers generously give their time and skills to help young people aged 12-18 develop new talents, prepare for adulthood, and form lasting friendships.
Two deserving recipients from Lanarkshire, Sergeant Grierson from 3 Platoon (RSB) Newmains and Sergeant Martin from 3 Troop Airdrie Royal Engineers, were commended with this highly coveted award. Sergeant Grierson expressed his gratitude, stating that winning the award meant everything to him and it would motivate him to continue supporting and guiding other cadets. Similarly, Sergeant Martin shared his joy at being recognised, emphasising his passion for helping cadets beyond just their training, by assisting them in various aspects of life preparation.
The nominations for CARAs are submitted by the Cadet members themselves, reflecting the deep admiration they have for their adult instructors across the Army Cadet Force, Sea Cadet Corps, and Air Training Corps. This year saw a record number of nominations, showcasing the immense impact these volunteers have on the young cadets they mentor.
During the award ceremony, the winning CFAVs delivered heartfelt acceptance speeches, acknowledging the significance of being nominated by their cadets and expressing gratitude for the recognition. Kate Johnston, Lowland RFCA Head of Communications, praised the CFAVs for their dedication in nurturing and empowering the next generation, providing not only fun and adventure but also essential life skills and career guidance.
Apart from receiving a CARAs certificate, each recipient was presented with a gift voucher sponsored by a local business, demonstrating community support for these dedicated volunteers. The annual CARAs event not only highlights the vital role of CFAVs in shaping young lives but also serves as a platform to celebrate their hard work and commitment.
In conclusion, the dedication and selflessness of Cadet Force Adult Volunteers play a crucial role in moulding the future leaders of tomorrow. The CARAs serve as a well-deserved recognition of their invaluable contribution to the development and growth of young cadets, fostering a sense of camaraderie and respect within the organisation.
