North Lanarkshire Council granted extension to temporary road closure concerning Newmains Main Street


North Lanarkshire Council has been granted an extension to a temporary road closure concerning Newmains Main Street. Originally scheduled to run from September 30 to December 1, the works on the A73 Main Street will now be continuing until Sunday, December 22. The closure will affect A73 Main Street from its junction with A722 Manse Road to its junction with School Road. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes such as A722 Manse Road, A722 Cambusnethan Street, A722 Kirk Road, A721 Stewarton Street, A721 Wishaw Road, A71 Overtown Road, and A73 Main Street.

During the second phase of the closure, the A73 (northbound only) will be closed from its junction with School Road to its junction with A722 Manse Road. Subsequent work will focus on the road from its junction with School Road to its junction with A722 Manse Road. The final phase will involve works at School Road, from its junction with the A73 to its junction with Church Avenue. Additionally, a temporary road closure has been confirmed for Tinto Crescent in Wishaw from December 18 to 20 to facilitate Scottish Water manhole repairs.

Access for vehicles and pedestrians will be allowed where possible during the closure in Wishaw. Drivers on the south side wishing to access the north side should proceed south, west, north, and east around Tinto Crescent, while those on the north side aiming to access the south side should follow the opposite direction. The council’s efforts to improve road infrastructure and public utilities reflect their commitment to ensuring safe and efficient travel within the region.
