Opinions sought on plans for a new Larkhall Leisure Centre

People in Larkhall are being encouraged to share their views on the proposed new leisure centre by South Lanarkshire Council leader Joe Fagan. The consultation process for the town’s upcoming leisure facility is ongoing, with the introduction of an online survey for residents to participate in. However, there has been some controversy surrounding the new centre, particularly from members of the pickleball club who are concerned about the space available for their sport, raising the possibility that they may have to travel outside the area to continue playing. This consultation aims to provide a platform for individuals to voice their opinions on such matters.

Various drop-in sessions have been held at the Lighthouse and the centre itself, attracting a significant turnout from the community and current centre users. Another drop-in session is scheduled to take place at the centre on Thursday, November 7, from 3pm to 7pm. The online survey will remain open for feedback until Friday, November 15. Students from Larkhall Academy were also given the chance to attend a previous consultation event at the school, where they could review the plans and engage with representatives from BAM Construction and Holmes Miller architects. Additionally, a curriculum event for P7 pupils at the school allowed parents to join in and provide feedback on the proposed plans.

Councillor Fagan expressed his delight at the strong community participation in the consultation events so far, urging those who have not yet attended to make an effort to join the upcoming session. For those unable to attend in person, he encourages them to complete the online survey as community input is crucial to the success of the project. Officials are exploring options, including the creation of a multi-functional space, to address concerns raised during the ongoing project work in Larkhall. Further consultations will be conducted to engage with the local community and elected representatives on the design of the new facility.
