Plans progress for sporting facility in Bothwell with £10k grant

Plans are moving forward for a new sporting facility in Bothwell, as Bothwell Futures Community Trust secures a £10,000 grant to aid in the project. The community group aims to revamp green space in Wooddean Park and transform it into a sports facility for local residents. In order to proceed with acquiring the site through a Community Asset Transfer, the Trust must first assess the feasibility of developing an all-weather sports pitch.

The South Lanarkshire Council’s Can Do Community Challenge Fund has stepped in to support the initiative by awarding the Trust with the £10,000 grant. This funding will play a crucial role in advancing the plans for the sports facility and bringing the project to fruition. Richard Mannering, a member of Bothwell Futures, expressed the group’s vision for creating an active play area within Wooddean Park, with the goal of encouraging year-round sports participation in the community.

Councillor Lesley McDonald, chair of the council’s Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, commended the work being done by Bothwell Futures and highlighted the council’s support for the project. The Can Do Community Challenge Fund, although now closed to new applications, continues to provide assistance to community organisations seeking financial aid for various projects.

Bothwell Futures’ progress in developing the sports facility signifies a positive step towards enhancing recreational opportunities for residents in Bothwell. The grant they have secured will not only help in the initial planning stages but also pave the way for future developments within the Wooddean Park area. With community involvement and support, this project has the potential to create a vibrant hub for sports and leisure activities in Bothwell.

In conclusion, the collaboration between Bothwell Futures Community Trust and the Can Do Community Challenge Fund highlights the importance of community-led initiatives in driving positive change and promoting active lifestyles. By investing in facilities that encourage sports participation and outdoor recreation, Bothwell is on track to become a more vibrant and inclusive community for residents of all ages.
