Rescheduled event for Hamilton Christmas lights switch-on

A rescheduled event for the Hamilton Christmas lights switch-on has been organised after last week’s original plans were cancelled due to poor weather conditions. The new festive ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 30, with hometown hero and Paralympic champion Steph McGuire set to illuminate the town’s Christmas lights in a special ceremony under the Christmas tree on Quarry Street at 4.30pm. The event will also feature a programme of entertainment throughout the afternoon.

The decision to rearrange the Christmas lights switch-on comes after Storm Bert forced the cancellation of many festive events across Scotland last weekend. Organisers from business improvement group Hamilton Our Town have worked tirelessly to put together a new pop-up switch-on ceremony for this Saturday. Local singing star William Boyle will host the entertainment starting from 1pm on the town-centre stage, followed by the light switch-on by Steph McGuire.

The originally-planned celebrations, including a parade with Santa, musicians, and performers, had to be cancelled last week due to the adverse weather conditions. However, organizers managed to move the craft market stalls inside the Regent Centre, where a variety of entertainers performed, including drag queen Garry King, LED performances from Think Circus, juggling and magic from The Juggling Gent, and performances from An Abba Dream and students from Valerie Brown school of dance.

Malcolm Thomas-Harley of Hamilton Our Town expressed his excitement about bringing the community together for the rescheduled light switch-on event. Despite the challenges faced last week, the organisers are determined to provide a festive celebration for the town and encourage support for local businesses. The festive programme in Hamilton is also set to include markets on December 7 and 21, a pop-up panto, and a town centre trail featuring Santa before Christmas.

In conclusion, the rescheduled Hamilton Christmas lights switch-on event promises to bring a festive cheer to the town after last week’s unfortunate cancellation due to adverse weather conditions. The community can look forward to a day filled with entertainment, music, and the illumination of the Christmas lights by local hero Steph McGuire. It is a great opportunity for the town to come together, support local businesses, and celebrate the holiday season.
