Sara Sharif’s dad ‘can’t explain’ burns and bites on her and another child

Sara Sharif’s father was unable to provide an explanation for how his daughter and another child sustained similar injuries, including domestic iron burns and human bites, despite being the “common denominator”, a court revealed. Urfan Sharif, a 42-year-old taxi driver, had been denying the murder of his 10-year-old daughter, Sara, following alleged ongoing abuse. Sara was tragically discovered dead at their family home in Woking, Surrey, last August 10, after Sharif, his wife, Beinash Batool, 30, and brother, Faisal Malik, 29, fled to Pakistan. The court was informed that Sara had endured numerous injuries, such as broken bones, bites, burns, and signs of being hooded and restrained.

Initially, Sharif had blamed Batool for Sara’s death, but later admitted to jurors that he bore “full responsibility”. He confessed to throttling her with his bare hands and using a cricket bat, metal pole, and a mobile phone to cause her harm, even striking her in the stomach as she lay dying. However, he denied involvement in the human bite marks found on Sara’s arm and the domestic iron burns on her bottom. During questioning, Michael Ivers KC, representing Malik, highlighted the coincidence of two children connected to Sharif suffering similar injuries. Sharif responded that he was not responsible for those particular injuries, stating, “I did not bite.”

The barrister pressed further, suggesting that Sharif was the common link in these incidents and in accusations from previous partners about abusive behaviour. Sharif struggled to explain these connections, admitting, “I’ve got no words.” The trial continued to unravel more details, including Sharif’s deception and attempts to deflect blame before finally owning up to his violent actions towards Sara.
