Scotland is gearing up for a magical festive season as snow maps predict a White Christmas for some lucky parts of the country. The latest weather forecasts are indicating that snow flurries will hit on Christmas Eve, bringing with them a drop in temperatures. Early projections suggest that much of Scotland could experience wintry conditions, with the latest WX Charts predicting a Christmas Eve whiteout.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast from December 24 to January 7 anticipates snow and sleet in some areas. Unsettled conditions with spells of wind and rain, followed by showers, are expected, particularly in the north and northwest of the UK. There could also be periods of sleet and snow, especially on high ground in the north. However, there are indications of more settled conditions, possibly in the south later in December or early January, with temperatures likely to be around average overall.

According to WX Charts, snow is forecast to fall in Scotland on December 24 from midnight for 24 hours. The snowfall is expected to start strongest on the northwest coast, with some areas possibly seeing a 12cm build-up. Central Scotland is predicted to have the highest snowfall accumulation of 20cm on Christmas Day. Additionally, there are warnings of temperatures dropping to as low as -5C, raising concerns about treacherous ice for holiday travellers.

As the week progresses, the Met Office forecasts showers becoming confined to the far south on Tuesday, with frost and fog persisting in Northern Ireland and Scotland while remaining cloudy elsewhere. Bookmakers at Coral have adjusted the odds for this December to potentially be the UK’s coldest ever, as temperatures are expected to drop nationwide. They also offer odds for a white Christmas in the UK, making it more likely this year.
