Scots baby had cocaine in system after drugs found on two dummies

In a shocking discovery, a Scottish baby was found to have cocaine in his system, with traces of the drug also found on two dummies. The incident took place when the four-week-old baby fell ill at a residence in Glasgow’s Pollokshaws on May 22, 2023. The infant was under the care of Yasmin Mazur, 27, and Connor McBride, 29, at the time. An ambulance was called after Mazur found the baby unwell at 4.30 am, and he was subsequently rushed to the hospital where his condition worsened, leading to his placement in an incubator and ventilator.

During a police search of the property, traces of cocaine were discovered on dummies located in the kitchen and living room. Both Mazur and McBride appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court and admitted to causing unnecessary suffering or injury to the baby’s health. McBride also pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine. It was revealed in court that a urine sample from the baby tested positive for cocaine, prompting further investigation.

Prosecutor Danielle McGuinness disclosed that swabs taken from various surfaces in the property, including the kitchen and living room, showed traces of cocaine. The dummies were analysed and found to contain an unspecified amount of the drug. Despite being arrested, both Mazur and McBride chose to remain silent during police interviews. Fortunately, it was reported that there were no long-term effects on the baby’s health as a result of the incident.

In their defense, Mazur’s lawyer, Gemma Elder, highlighted the impact of the case on her client’s employment, while McBride’s lawyer, Garvey McArdle, noted his client’s current pursuit of becoming a drugs counsellor. Sheriff Tony Kelly deferred sentencing pending background reports and warned of potential custody for both defendants, emphasizing the grave danger the child had been put in. The pair were granted bail until the next court hearing.
