Scots predator who ruined young women’s lives in campaign of terror unmasked

An online predator in Scotland, Andreas Gkertsos, has been revealed after a disturbing campaign of terror that left several young women’s lives shattered. Gkertsos, who is now 23 years old, initiated a sexploitation spree as a teenager, leaking explicit photos, stalking nine women, and extorting thousands of pounds from them. Despite admitting to multiple crimes, he has remained free due to legal delays. The delay in unmasking his identity has finally been lifted, shedding light on his heinous actions. Crime expert Professor Jane Monckton-Smith expressed grave concern over the case, emphasizing the chilling nature of his behaviour.

Using fake social media accounts, Gkertsos coerced eight women into sharing intimate images, subjected them to abuse, and then demanded more images or money to stop his harassment. His tactics included threatening to expose the images to family members, posting explicit content online, and terrorising victims to the point of them having to flee their homes. Gkertsos was only 17 when he started his online reign of terror, targeting women with threats and manipulation. His criminal activities led to his prosecution under revenge porn legislation introduced in 2017, with charges including abusive behaviour and attempted extortion.

Two courageous victims, Becky Strain and Chantal Cameron, have spoken out about their harrowing experiences to warn others. Becky, who dated Gkertsos when she was 18, endured abuse and blackmail, leading to trauma that affected her daily life and mental health. Chantal, a daycare worker, fell prey to Gkertsos’ stalking tactics after initially engaging with him on social media. His relentless abuse, threats, and vandalism of her property caused immense fear and forced her and her family to flee their home in terror.

Despite pleading guilty to some charges in 2023, Gkertsos evaded authorities for months before being apprehended again in October. His victims, particularly Chantal, remain apprehensive about their safety as they await his sentencing. Experts have emphasised the danger Gkertsos poses to women, highlighting his use of coercive control and stalking behaviours. Detective Sergeant Mark Seymour praised the bravery of the women who came forward, ensuring Gkertsos’ malicious actions were brought to light.
