Sean Batty and Laura Boyd raise £10K for charity on crazy challenge-filled tour of Scots landmarks
Weatherman Sean Batty and showbiz reporter Laura Boyd have successfully raised over £10,000 for this year’s STV Children’s Appeal. The dynamic duo embarked on a 48-hour marathon tour of Scotland, visiting numerous landmarks and tackling various tasks and challenges along the way.
From iconic sites like Edinburgh Castle, The Kelpies in Falkirk, and the V&A in Dundee to Inveraray Jail and The Three Sisters in Glencoe, Sean and Laura managed to cover a dozen landmarks during their adventure. At each stop, they collected donations that will go towards supporting projects aimed at helping vulnerable children and their families across the country.
Throughout their journey, the pair faced a range of challenges including splatter painting, an army assault course, paddleboard and segway races, and a crazy golf competition. Laura, who has been involved with the STV Appeal since its inception in 2011, expressed her gratitude for the support received along the way, highlighting the generosity of the people they met during the tour.
Sean, known for his weather forecasts on STV for 17 years, emphasised the importance of raising funds to support children living in poverty in Scotland. The duo, who are both competitive by nature, took on the challenges passionately, all in the name of raising awareness and funds for a cause close to their hearts.
Looking ahead to next year’s challenge, which marks the Appeal’s 15th anniversary, Laura and Sean are preparing for what could be their scariest challenge yet—possibly involving a skydive, a daunting prospect for both who have a fear of heights.
The highlights of this year’s “Monument Marathon” will be broadcast on STV during the upcoming telefundraiser show hosted by Laura and Lorraine Kelly. Over the past 14 years, the STV Children’s Appeal has raised over £32 million to support children and families in need across Scotland.
The Scottish Government has been a strong supporter of the Appeal, providing up to £1 million of match funding annually. First Minister John Swinney commended the initiative, highlighting the importance of supporting children and young people to ensure they have access to opportunities for a brighter future.
The STV Children’s Appeal 2024 fundraising event is set to air on Friday 8th November on STV and STV Player, calling on the people of Scotland to donate generously to support those in need.
In conclusion, Sean Batty and Laura Boyd’s fundraising efforts exemplify the power of collaboration and determination in making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families. Their adventurous journey not only raised vital funds but also served as a testament to the generosity and support of the Scottish community towards a meaningful cause.
