Stirling and Clackmannanshire Prepare for Snowfall as Met Office Issues Weather Advisory

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice that is set to impact most of the Forth Valley region next week. Forth Valley is gearing up for snow and ice after the Met Office issued a 24-hour weather warning forecasting a cold snap moving in next week. The warning indicates a “small chance of disruption from snow and ice” on Monday and Tuesday, in effect from 10 am on Monday until 10 am on Tuesday. There is a possibility of the cold spell causing disruption across the area, including power cuts, slippery surfaces, potential isolation of rural communities, delays and cancellations of public transport and on the roads.

According to a Met Office forecaster, spells of rain, sleet, and snow are expected during Monday and into Tuesday morning. The majority of the snow is likely to fall on high ground, with 5-10cm possible above 300 meters and potentially up to 15-20cm above 400 meters. While there is a small chance of snow settling at lower levels, causing 5-10cm of disruption, this remains uncertain. As the wintry mix clears on Tuesday morning, icy conditions may form on untreated surfaces. Residents are advised to plan travel routes, check for delays and road closures, allow extra time for travel preparations, and pack essentials in their vehicles in case of any delays.

Preparedness is key to managing potential power cuts or service disruptions due to snow. Essential items such as torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities should be readily available. The yellow weather warning encompasses Stirling, Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, and Fife, as well as Strathclyde, southwest Scotland, Lothian Borders, Northeast England, Northwest England, Yorkshire & Humber.

In summary, the Met Office has issued a weather warning for snow and ice in the Forth Valley region, including Stirling and Clackmannanshire, with potential disruptions to transportation and services. Residents are advised to prepare for wintry conditions and possible power outages by planning travel routes, packing essentials in their vehicles, and ensuring they have necessary supplies on hand in case of emergencies.
