Teenage boy ambushed and robbed of e-scooter in Motherwell

A 15-year-old boy was ambushed and robbed of his e-scooter in Motherwell, as Kyle Adam headbutted the youngster and made off with his phone and headphones. The incident took place on Leven Street on February 21, and Adam, 19, of Berryhill Crescent, Wishaw, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to assault and robbery.

Rebecca Clark, prosecuting, revealed that it was believed the boy owed Adam money at the time of the attack. The court heard that a girl informed Adam she had met the boy on Airbles Road. Subsequently, Adam accompanied her to the area, waited by the side of a building, and then forcefully removed the boy from his e-scooter. He then demanded the boy’s jacket, threatening him with violence if he refused.

After the boy complied and handed over his jacket containing his phone and headphones, Adam and the girl fled the scene with the stolen items and the e-scooter. The victim then ran home and reported the incident to his mother, who described him as being upset and shocked. Police became involved, and the stolen items were eventually recovered.

Sheriff Louise Gallacher deferred sentencing on Adam until the following month to allow for background reports. His bail conditions, including a curfew from 9pm to 6am, were continued.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of personal belongings theft and assaults, especially among younger individuals. It is essential for individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
